July 1 – Flying to Svalbard

We had a morning check out so we had a long wait at the airport since our flight wasn’t scheduled to depart until after 5:00pm.  Unfortunately, on top of that wait the flight was delayed about 45 minutes so we had a long time to hang out at the airport. 

We didn’t arrive in Longyearbyen, Svalbard until after 10:00pm.  The flight in was spectacular.  Since this is also part of the “Land of the Midnight Sun” it was still light when we flew in.  The mountains were spectacular with lots of snow on the peaks. 

At the baggage claim area we were greeted by a "local".

We took the bus to the hotel and went right to bed.
